Pulpwood harvest from short rotation (7yrs) eucalypt plantations with bushfire damage to young plantation in background Sao Paulo Brazil. 2007
In the Brown Tech scenario short rotation forestry plantations for industrial energy and chemical feedstocks expand in many regions as agriculture becomes less viable due to unreliable seasons, declining soil fertility and increasing fertiliser costs. Plantations previously established for paper, feed the growing biomass energy sector as paper demand declines with economic contraction and expansion of electronic documentation. Drought and bushfire reduce productivity in many regions.
